JELD-WEN, a major door and window manufacturer headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, operates in 15 countries across North America and Europe. As part of its European growth strategy, the company has expanded into Finland and the Baltic States, where it has prioritized workplace safety initiatives. To support this, JELD-WEN recently introduced a new Work & Safety Instructions portal aimed at improving safety standards for factory workers in these regions. Known for its energy-efficient building products, the company’s commitment to employee well-being is central to its operational goals.

As part of digital consulting firm Proekspert, I contributed to the design of this portal, which simplifies the creation, updating, and approval of safety protocols. The platform reinforces JELD-WEN's commitment to workplace safety by giving employees easy access to essential guidelines. Its clear structure allows workers to efficiently navigate the portal, sign off on documents, and stay informed about crucial procedures, ensuring that safety protocols are consistently followed across the organization.

Design Challenges

The portal was designed with functionality in mind, tailored to meet the diverse needs of JELD-WEN’s workforce. Its modular architecture allows for seamless updates and adjustments, supporting the company’s evolving safety standards and simplifying protocol compliance across the organization.

A key strength of the platform is its ability to balance regulatory compliance with practical design. The system was built to simplify the process of updating safety protocols and tracking different versions, ensuring that the portal remains up to date with the latest regulations. Automated notifications keep employees informed of important changes, so they can respond promptly. Thanks to its modular structure, the system was implemented quickly and can be adjusted easily based on user feedback, without needing a complete overhaul. This flexibility has enabled JELD-WEN’s teams in Finland and the Baltic region to adopt a safety management tool that evolves with the company’s growing needs.
