Managing greenhouse gas emissions is both a regulatory requirement and a logistical challenge for shipping companies. Many existing solutions are fragmented and inefficient, making it difficult to track and reduce environmental impact. CarbonPath, developed by Arundo Analytics, addresses these issues with a comprehensive cloud-based platform that consolidates emissions data, offers advanced analytics, and simplifies compliance reporting.

CarbonPath enables shipping companies to monitor emissions with precision. The platform consolidates scattered datasets into real-time analytics and visualizations, allowing users to make informed decisions. By centralizing communication and eliminating inefficient email chains, CarbonPath improves transparency and streamlines operations.

Design Challenges
The initial prototype of CarbonPath was created by EGGS, an Oslo-based design agency. My role was to further refine the platform, using Arundo's new design system (ARCO) to enhance workflows and create a more intuitive navigation tailored to diverse user personas.
A crucial challenge was ensuring the platform balanced complexity with ease of use, particularly for power users handling large datasets. To achieve this, I focused on simplifying data management and creating a clear, user-friendly interface. This required close collaboration with remote teams across Europe and consultants in Dhaka, navigating time zones, cultural differences, and varied workflows. Effective communication and structured meetings were essential to align efforts and ensure consistency across the platform.

· Progressive Disclosure: To prevent information overload, data is revealed gradually, allowing users to focus on the most relevant tasks without being overwhelmed.

· Conditional Visibility: Forms and similar modules are only shown when relevant, keeping the interface clean and reducing cognitive load and problems related with information ordeal.
· Simplified Data Entry: The platform was built to simplify the data entry process, allowing users to input information quickly and accurately without unnecessary complexity.
Outcomes
With Frontline PLC as its first customer, CarbonPath aims to keep enhancing emissions data management for the shipping industry. The platform’s UI allows users to quickly and intuitively find, analyze, and interpret key data points without getting bogged down in unnecessary steps, offering maritime companies an efficient way to meet environmental standards.
